Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny)’s beloved daughter Sayyedah Fatimah Az-Zahra (peace be upon her)'s heart-rending cries over the martyrdom of her father, the Best of all Creatures, shook each and every nook of the holy city of Medina.
Queen of Habash, Fizza (may Allah be please with her), who served Sayyedah Fatimah Az-Zahraa (peace be on her) for long time, reported: "I have never seen Ahle Haram (progeny of holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his pure progeny), raising such heartrending cries except on three occasions: 1- Over the martyrdom of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny); 2- When Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) departed Medina; 3- When Bint-e-Zahraa (peace be upon her) returned back to Medina from Syria."
An authentic tradition tells that after the burial of holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny), Mistress of Women of World Sayyedah Fatimah (peace be upon her) took a handful of earth from his holy grave, touched it to her eyes and recited this elegy composed by herself to mourn her father Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny):
“One who once gets the scent of earth of grave of Ahmed (peace be upon him and his pure progeny), would never arrange for any other fragrances … (After your death O’ father) I was subjected to such tortures and tyranny that if they had been inflicted on the 'Days', it would have turned into 'Nights' … This grief is my companion after you and these tears of sorrow are peace of heart.”
It is reported in Behar-ol Anwar Volume 43 page 177 that Sayyedah Fatimah (peace be upon her) returned to her home, and she wailed day and night, her tears did not dry out and her sighs did not calm down, then Sheikhs of Medina came to the Master of Believers Imam Ali Ibn-e-Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and said to him: O Aba Al-Hasan! Fatimah (peace be upon her) cries day and night; due to her cries, no one of us could sleep at night and none of us have peace in our works. We request you to ask her to weep either in night or day.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) then conveyed their message to the daughter of holy Prophet (peace be upon them) and she replied: O Aba Al-Hasan (peace be upon him)! … My cries could not end until I meet my father, Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his pure progeny)…
Then Imam Ali (peace be upon him) built a house far from the city in Al-Baqee Cemetry known as Bayt-ol Ahzaan (house of griefs) for Fatimah Az-Zahraa (peace be upon her), about whom her father Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) had often said ‘Fatimah is part of me, he who hurts her hurts me’, so that she could mourn her father there. She, in the morning, used to go to it with Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain (peace be upon them) shedding tears, and when night came Imam Ali (peace be upon him) used to go to her and bring her to her home. This remained her routine until her death which happened after 75 days following the martyrdom of her father (peace be upon him and his pure progeny).
Imam Ghazali (450 505) says that Muslims constructed on this holy place where Fatimah Az-Zahraa (peace be upon her) used to mourn her father (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) a dome, and they arranged to visit it and offer prayers therein, thus for it was known as Al-Fatimah Mosque by some A’mah, and some Ulema from Ahl-e-Sunnah gave verdicts that offering prayer in it is desirable.
A western traveler SIR RICHARD BURTON says and he had visited Al-Baqee in year 1853, 1276AH that in Al-Baqee and on the southern side of Al-Abbas Ibn Abdul Muttalib’s dome there was a small mosque known as house of griefs, Fatemah Az-Zahraa used to come to this place so that she could cry over her father the God's Messenger (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) – (Moso’aa [encyclopedia] Al-Atbaat Al-Moqaddesa, Volume 3)
Egyptian writer Ibrahim Rafat Basha who visited Al-Baqee in 1325 AH says there was a dome named the grief dome. it is said that it is in the house where Fatemah the daughter of Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) came and mourned after the demise of her father the God's Messenger (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) – (Meraat-ol Haramayn Volume 1).
Al-Allamah Sayyed Sharfuddin Al-Amly says in his book An-Nass wal Ijtehad: “And we were honoured to visit this house (house of griefs) in the year 1339 (in Al-Baqee).
This Bayt-ol Ahzaan, or House of Griefs which was used by the Best of Women of World Sayyedah Fatimah Az-Zahraa (peace be upon her) to mourn her father, the Best of Creatures Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace be upon him and his pure progeny) was bulldozed by the Saudi rulers Aal-e-Saud as they had destructed holy shrines of Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny)’s progeny, wives, companions and other Islamic and historic signs in Al-Baqee, Al-Moalla in Holy cities of Makkah and Medina, Saudi Arabia.
