In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
1. O people! Fear your Lord! Indeed, the quake of the Hour is terrifying!
2. On the day, when you behold it, every suckling mother shall forsake the babe she had suckled, and every pregnant woman shall lay down her burden, and you shall behold people looking drunk, but they are not drunk; God’s chastisement, though, will be terrifying.
3. Among people is he who disputes about God without knowledge, following every rebellious Satan.
4. Against him is decreed that whosoever takes him as his friend, then he shall beguile him and lead him to the torment of the burning Fire.
5. O people! If you are in doubt about the Rising, then We created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, then from a clot, then from a lump of flesh, wholly formed and (sometimes) partially formed, that We may manifest Our power to you. And We cause what We will to stay in the womb until an appointed term, then We bring you forth infants, that you may reach maturity. And of you is he who is caused to die, and of you is he who is kept to the feeblest age that he knows nothing after having known. You behold the earth dead dry, but when We send down water upon it, it stirs and swells and produces every kind of attractive herbage.
6. This is (so) because God is indeed True, and because He gives life to the dead, and He has power over all things.
7. And that the Hour is coming; there is no doubt therein, and that God will raise those who are in the graves.
8. Among people is one who disputes about God without knowledge or any guidance, or an enlightening book,
9. Turning away haughtily that he may lead people astray from the way of God. For him is a disgrace in this world, and We shall make him taste the punishment of the burning Fire on the Day of Judgment.
10. “This is for what both of your hands had sent before; verily God is not unjust to His servants.”
11. Among people is he who worships God on the verge; so, if good befalls him, he is satisfied, and if a trial afflicts him, he turns away, losing both this world and the hereafter; that is the manifest loss.
12. He calls besides God that which does not harm him nor profits him; that is straying far off.
13. He calls upon one whose harm is nearer than his advantage. Evil is his guardian, and it certainly is his companion.
14. Indeed, God will admit those Who believe and do good deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow. God does what He intends.
15. Whoever thinks that God will never help him in this life nor the hereafter, let him stretch a cord to the heavens, then let him sever it, then see if his device takes away what he is enraged at.
16. We have thus revealed it as manifest signs, so that God may guide whomsoever He pleases.
17. On the Day of Judgment, God will decide between those who believe, those who are Jews, the Sabians, the Christians, the Magians, and the polytheists; verily God is witness over all things.
18. Do you not see that to God prostrates whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, the sun and the moon, the stars and the mountains, the trees and the animals, and many people, too? Whomsoever God disgraces, there is none for him to honour. Indeed, God does whatever He pleases.
19. These are two disputants who dispute about their Lord: As for those who disbelieved, garments of fire shall be cut for them, and boiling water shall be poured over their heads.
20. With it shall be melted whatsoever is in their bellies, and their skins, too.
21. And for them are hooked rods of iron.
22. Every time they intend to get away therefrom, out of anguish, they are turned into it. Taste the torment of the burning Fire.
23. God will admit those who believe and do good deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow; they shall be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and with pearls, and their clothing therein shall be of silk.
24. For they are guided to goodly words, and they are guided to the path of the Praised One.
25. Those who disbelieve and obstruct the way of God and from the Sacred Mosque which We have made equally for the dweller therein as well as the stranger, and whoever intends to unjustly do wrong therein, We will make him taste a grievous chastisement.
26. Behold! We fixed for Abraham the place of the House, “Associate nothing with Me, and cleanse My House for those who circumambulate and stand in prayer, and bow and prostrate themselves.
27. “And proclaim the hajj to the people. They will then come to you from every remote way, on foot, and on lean camels.
28. “That they may witness advantages for them, and mention the name of God during the appointed days over what He has provided them of livestock quadruped, and then eat of them and feed the poor.”
29. Then let them tidy themselves and fulfill their vows, and let them circumambulate the Ancient House.
30. Let (the pilgrimage) be so, and whoever respects the inviolabilities of God, it is best for him with his Lord. The livestock are made lawful to you, save that which has been recited unto you; then shun the pollution of the idols, and shun vain talk,
31. Being upright for God, not associating anyone with Him. Whosoever associates any with God, it is as though he has fallen from heavens and birds snatched him away, or the wind wafted him to a distant place.
32. Let that be. And whoever respects the signs of God, verily it is (a sign) of the piety of the hearts.
33. There are benefits therein for you till a fixed time, and the place of their sacrifice is the Ancient House.
34. We have prescribed a rite for every nation that they may mention the name of God on what He has provided them of the quadruped livestock. Your Lord is One God, so submit to Him, and give glad tidings to the humble,
35. Whose hearts quake when God is mentioned, and those who bear patiently what befalls them, and keep regular prayers, and spend (in God’s way) of that with which We have provided them.
36. We made the sacrificial camels for you among the signs of the religion of God. In them there is (plenteous) good for you; so mention the name of God on them, standing in rows, and when they fall down on their sides; eat thereof, and feed the poor who do not ask, and the beggar; thus have We subjected them to you; haply you may give thanks.
37. Neither their meat nor blood reach God, but piety on your part does; thus has He subjected them to you that you might glorify God for having guided you aright, and give glad tidings to the doers of good deeds.
38. God defends those who believe; verily God does not love anyone unfaithful, ungrateful.
39. Permission is granted to those against whom war is waged (to fight back), for they have been oppressed, and God is well able to help them-
40. They have been expelled from their homes unjustly for saying: “Our Lord is God!” Had God not repelled some people through others, cloisters and churches, synagogues and mosques in which God’s name is much mentioned, would have been razed. Indeed God will help him who supports Him; indeed God is strong, mighty.
41. Those who, if We establish them in the land, observe prayer and pay zakat, and enjoin good and forbid evil, and to God belongs the outcome of all affairs,
42. If they reject you (O Muhammad), so did before you the people of Noah and Ad and Thamud,
43. And the people of Abraham and of Lot,
44. And the dwellers of Midian (all rejected), and Moses was also rejected, but I gave a respite to the disbelievers, then I seized them, so how (severe) was my disapproval?
45. How many towns did We destroy, tumbling over their roofs, for their people were unjust? How many wells lie idle, neglected? And yet how many lofty castles stand abandoned?
46. Have they not travelled in the land so that their hearts may understand and ears may hear? Indeed it is not the eyes that are blind; the hearts in the bosoms have indeed become blind.
47. They ask you to hasten the chastisement. God will never fail His promise, and surely a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of your reckoning.
48. How many a city did I respite while it was unjust, then I seized it? And unto Me is the final return.
49. Say: “O people! I am only sent to deliver a clear warning to you.”
50. For those who believe and do good deeds is pardon and an honourable provision.
51. Those who strive to invalidate Our signs shall be the inmates of the flaming Fire.
52. We did not send before you any messenger or prophet but when he had a desire, Satan cast vanity into his desire; yet God annuls that which Satan casts, then God establishes His signs; God is all-Knowing, all-Wise.
53. So that He may make that which Satan casts as a trial to those in whose hearts there is a disease, and to those whose hearts are hard; indeed the unjust are in a distant separation,
54. And that those who have been given the knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord, so they may believe in it, and may humble their hearts thereto, and God guides those who believe to the Right Path.
55. Those who disbelieve will not cease doubting it until the Hour overtakes them suddenly, or a chastisement of a disastrous day.
56. The Kingdom that day shall belong to God; He will judge between them. Those who believe and do good deeds will be in gardens of bliss,
57. For those who disbelieve and reject Our signs there is a disgraceful chastisement (in store).
58. Those who migrate in the way of God, and are then slain or they die, God will certainly provide them with an excellent sustenance; surely God is the best of providers.
59. He will indeed admit them into an entrance with which they shall be well-pleased; God is the all-Knowing, most Patient.
60. Let that be so, and he who retaliated with the like of what was inflicted upon him, then again he was oppressed, most certainly God will aid him; God is Merciful, Forgiving.
61. That is so because God causes the night to enter into the day, and the day to enter into the night, and because God is all-Hearing, all-Seeing.
62. That is so because God is the Truth, and that what they call upon besides Him is the falsehood, and because God is the Highest, the most Great.
63. Do you not see that God sends down water from the heavens and the earth becomes green? Indeed God is Kind, all-Aware.
64. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth; God is self-Sufficient, worthy of all Praise.
65. Do you not see that God has subjected for you whatsoever is in the earth, and the ships sail in the sea by His command? And He holds back the heavens lest it should fall on earth save with His permission; God is Compassionate, all-Merciful.
66. He it is Who has brought you to life, then He will cause you to die, then He shall bring you to life again; man is surely ungrateful.
67. To every people We have prescribed rites which they shall observe, so they should not dispute with you about the affair, and call unto your Lord; you are on the right course.
68. If they dispute with you, say: “God knows best what you do.
69. “God will judge between you on the Day of Judgment in that wherein you differ.”
70. Do you not know that God knows what is in the heavens and the earth? Indeed all is in a record; that is easy for God.
71. They worship besides God that for which He has not sent any authority, and that of which they have no knowledge; there shall be no helper for the unjust.
72. When Our clear signs are recited unto them, you will perceive repugnance on the faces of those who disbelieve. They practically leap upon those who recite Our signs. Say: “Shall I inform you of what is worse than this? God has promised the Fire for those who disbelieve; how evil an ending!”
73. O people! A parable is set forth, so listen to it. Those whom you call upon besides God cannot create a fly, even if they all gather together for it, and should the fly carry away anything from them, they cannot recover it; weak are the invoker and the invoked!
74. They do not measure God with His true measure; God is Almighty, omni-Potent.
75. God chooses messengers from among the angels, and from men; God is all-Hearing, all-Seeing.
76. He knows what is before them, and what is behind them, and to God are all affairs returned.
77. O you who believe! Bow down and prostrate, and worship your Lord, and do good deeds, haply you may succeed.
78. Strive for God as it behooves you to strive for Him; He has chosen you and laid upon you no hardship in religion, the faith of your father Abraham who named you Muslims before and in this (revelation) that the messenger might be a witness over you, and that you might be witnesses over man. So establish prayer and pay zakat and hold fast to God; He is your Master; He is the best to protect, and the best to help.
