In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Ta, Sin, Mim.
2. These are the verses of the manifest Book,
3. We recite unto you of the accounts of Moses and Pharaoh, in truth, for (the benefit of) those who believe.
4. Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and divided its people into parties, weakening a group among them, slaughtering their sons and sparing their women; verily he was one of the mischief-makers.
5. And We intend to bestow Our Favour upon those who were considered weak in the land, and to make them THE imams, and the heirs.
6. And to empower them in the world, and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts what they dreaded.
7. We inspired to Moses’ mother: “Nurse him, and should you fear for his life, then launch him in the deep (river, Nile), and fear not, nor grieve, for We shall return him to you and make him one of Our messengers.”
8. Pharaoh’s people picked him, that he might be their enemy and a (cause for their) grief; Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were surely sinners.
9. Pharaoh’s wife said: “Let this be a joy of my eyes and yours; do not slay him; perhaps he will be of use to us, or maybe we will adopt him as a son,” and they were not aware (of consequences).
10. The heart of Moses’ mother felt relieved, and she almost disclosed it, had We not strengthened her heart so that she might be a believer (in Our promise).
11. She said to his sister: “Follow him,” and she watched him from a distance, while they were unaware.
12. We decreed that none could nurse him; so she (his sister) said: “Shall I guide you to a family that might take care of him for you and look after his well-being?”
13. Thus did We restore him to his mother so that her eyes might be delighted, and so that she might not grieve but know that God’s promise is true, yet most people do not know.
14. When he reached his prime strength and full growth, We granted him wisdom and knowledge; thus do We reward those who do good deeds.
15. He entered the city while its people were unaware and found therein two men fighting: one of them belonged to his own party, the other to his enemy. The one of his party sought his help against that of his enemy, and Moses struck him with his fist and ended his life; he said: “This is of Satan’s doing; he is,indeed, a clear enemy, a misleader.”
16. He (Moses) said: “Lord! I have hurt my own self; so, grant me refuge.” So He granted him refuge; verily, He is oft-Forgiving, all-Merciful.
17. He (Moses) said: “Lord! Because of the grace You have bestowed upon me, I shall never be a supporter for criminals.”
18. He remained in the city frightened, apprehensive when, lo, he whom he had aided the day before was now again appealing for help. Moses said to him: “You certainly are mischievous.”
19. When he was about to assault their (common) enemy, the latter said: “So, Moses! Do you wish to kill me as you yesterday killed another man? Do you intend to be a tyrant in the land, not desiring to be a reformer (instead)?”
20. A man came running from the remotest part of the city and said: “Moses! People are planning to kill you; so, get out; I only wish to give you a sincere advice.”
21. So he went out, frightened, apprehensive. He said: “Lord! Rescue me from the unjust people.”
22. When he headed towards Midian, he said: “Maybe my Lord will guide me to the right path.”
23. Having arrived at Midian’s water-place, he found a group of people watering (their flocks), and found besides them two women keeping their flocks away. He asked: “What is the matter with you?” They said: “We cannot water till the (other) shepherds take their herds away, and our father is a very old man.”
24. So he watered for them, then he retired to the shade and said: “Lord! Verily, though You have bestowed upon me many bounties, I still am needy.”
25. Then one of them came to him walking bashfully. She said: “My father invites you to reward you for watering for us.” So when he came to him and narrated the story to him, he (their father) said: “Fear no more. You are secure from the unjust people.”
26. One of them said: “Father, employ him. Verily he would be the best to employ, strong and trustworthy.”
27. He said: “I desire to wed you to one of these two daughters of mine provided you serve me for eight years, and if you complete ten, then it would be out of your own goodness. I do not intend to place any hardship on you; you will find me, if God wills, righteous.”
28. He (Moses) said: “This is an agreement between me and you: should I fulfill either of the two terms, there will be no injustice on my part, and God is a witness to what we say.”
29. When Moses had fulfilled the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived on the side of Mount Tur (Sinai) a fire; he said to his family: I behold a fire; maybe I shall bring you some glad tidings from there, or a torch of fire to warm yourselves.”
30. When he came close to it, he was called upon from the right side of the valley, in the blessed area of a tree: “O Moses! Verily it is I, God, Lord of the worlds.
31. “So cast your staff down.” Having seen it shake like a serpent, he turned back running in retreat, without looking back. “Come, O Moses, forward, and do not fear, for verily you are secure.
32. “And put your hand in your pocket, it shall come out white, (glowing) without a blemish, and close your sides nearer to you, should you feel any fear; these are proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his people; they are people of corruption.”
33. He (Moses) said: “Lord! I have surely killed one of them; so, I fear they would slay me;
34. “And my brother Aaron is more articulate then me; so, send him with me as my assistant to testify for me, for I fear they would reject me.”
35. He said: “We will strengthen you by your brother, and We will grant you authority so that they cannot approach you both; through Our signs, you and those who support you shall triumph.”
36. When Moses brought them Our signs, they said: “This is nothing but a forged sorcery, and we never heard it from our fathers of old.”
37. Moses said: “My Lord knows best who brings guidance from Him, and who shall be well rewarded in the hereafter; He never suffers the unjust to succeed.”
38. Pharaoh said: “O people! I do not know any god for you besides myself; so, burn for me, O Haman, bricks of clay, and build me a tower so that I may mount it and see Moses’ God, and I verily deem him to be a liar.”
39. He and his hosts exalted their own selves in the world without a just cause, thinking that they will never be brought back to Us.
40. So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the deep (sea); behold then how the end of the unjust ones was.
41. We made them imams who invite people to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection, they shall never be helped.
42. We caused a curse to follow them in this life, and on the Day of Resurrection, they shall be loathed, despised.
43. Indeed, We granted Moses the Book after destroying generations of old: clear arguments for mankind, a guidance and mercy, so that they might reflect.
44. You were not on the western side (of Mount Sinai) when We passed to Moses the commandments, nor were you an eye-witness.
45. But We raised generations, and a long time passed upon them. Nor were you a dweller among the people of Midian, rehearsing Our signs to them, but We sent you (O Our Prophet Muhammad) as one of Our messengers.
46. You were not on the side of Mount Tour (Sinai) when We called (upon Moses), but it is the mercy of your Lord that you warn a people to whom no warner has come before, so that they may reflect.
47. Were it not so, and should a calamity befall them for what their hands commit, then they would say: “O Lord! Why did You not send us a messenger to follow Your signs and believe?”
48. Yet when the truth came to them from Us, they said: “Why is he not given the like of what Moses was given?” Did not they disbelieve in what Moses was given? They said: “Two sorcerers backing each other,” and they said: “Verily, we disbelieve in everything.”
49. Say: “Then bring a book from God that guides better than both (Torah and Qur’an), so that I may follow it, if you are truthful.”
50. If they do not answer you, know then that they only follow their own caprice. Who is more straying than he who follows his own caprice without any (divine) guidance? Verily God does not guide unjust people.
51. Indeed, We caused the Word to come to them continuously, so that they might be admonished.
52. Those whom We gave the Book before are believers therein.
53. When it is recited unto them, they say: “We believe in it; verily, it is the truth from our Lord; verily, we are submitting (as Muslims) even before.”
54. These shall be granted their reward twice for what they have persevered. They repel evil with goodness, and they spend of the sustenance with which We provide them.
55. When they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say: “For us shall be our deeds, and you shall have yours; peace be with you; we do not desire the (company of the) ignorant.”
56. Verily, you cannot guide whomsoever you like; God guides whomsoever He pleases, and He knows best those who follow right guidance.
57. They say: “If we follow the guidance with you, we shall be driven out from our land.” Have We not established them in a sacred and safe precinct to which all kinds of fruit are brought, a sustenance with which We have provided them? But most of them do not know.
58. How many a town, in which means of subsistence exulted, did We destroy? These are their dwellings: they have never been inhabited after them save a little, and We are their heirs.
59. Your Lord destroys no town until He raises in its metropolis a messenger rehearsing Our signs to them, and we destroyed no town except when its inhabitants were unjust people.
60. Whatever things you have been given are but a provision of this life and its adornment, and whatever is (in store) with God is better and more lasting. Do you not then understand?
61. Is he, then, whom We have promised a goodly promise which he shall meet is equal to him whom We have provided the provision of this life, then on the Day of Resurrection he shall be arraigned?
62. On that Day, God will call unto them and say: “Where are the partner whom you ascribed to Me?”
63. Those against whom the sentence has been confirmed will say: “O Lord! These are they whom we led astray: we led them astray even as we had ourselves been led astray: we declare to You to be free of them; they were not worshipping us.”
64. It will be said: “Call upon your associate (gods);” so they called, but they gave them no answer, and they shall witness the chastisement and wish that they had been rightly guided.
65. On that day, He shall call upon them and say: “How did you answer My messengers?”
66. The tidings shall that Day be so confusing that they shall not even ask each other.
67. Yet, as regarding that who turned repentant to God, believed (in Him), and did good deeds, he may be among the successful ones.
68. Your Lord creates whatever He pleases, and chooses, too. It is not they that choose; Praised is God, and Highly Exalted is He above what they associate with Him.
69. Your Lord knows what their hearts conceal and what they declare.
70. He is God; there is no god but He. His is all the praise, in the beginning and the end; His is the authority, and to Him (only) you shall be returned.
71. Say: “Have you seen how God has made the night to continue on you until the Day of Resurrection? Who is the god other than God that could bring light to you? Do you then hear?”
72. Say: “Have you seen how God has made the day to continue on you until the Day of Resurrection? Who is the god other than God that could bring night to you to rest therein? Do you not then see?”
73. Of His mercy is making the night for you and the day, so that you may rest therein, and that you may seek His Grace, and that you may be grateful (to Him).
74. On that Day, He shall call unto them and say: “Where are My partners whom you used to claim?”
75. We will draw forth a witness from each nation, and We will say: “Bring forth your proof.” They shall know then that the truth is God’s, and whatever they used to forge shall depart from them.
76. Indeed, Korah (Qarun) belonged to the people of Moses, but rebelled against them. We had given him treasures, so much so that their keys would have been a burden even for a group of many strong. When his people said to him: “Do not exult, for God does not love those who exult.
77. “And seek by means of what God has given you the abode of the hereafter, and do not forget your share in this world; be good unto others even as God has been good unto you, and do not seek mischief in the world; verily, God does not love mischief-makers.”
78. He (Korah) said: “It has been granted to me only on account of the knowledge I possess.” Did he not know that God has surely destroyed generations before him who were mightier in prowess than him and greater in hoarding? The criminals shall not be questioned about their crimes.
79. So he went forth to his people, pompous, and those who coveted (the pleasures of) this world said: “Would that we had the like of what Korah has been given! Verily he owns a great fortune.”
80. Those who were endowed with knowledge said: “Woe unto you! God’s reward is better for him who believes and does good deeds, but none shall attain it save the steadfast ones.”
81. Then We caused the earth to swallow him and his abode; there was no group that could help him against God, nor was he able to defend his own self.
82. Those who coveted his position only the day before began saying: “Oh! As if God amplifies or straitens the sustenance of whomsoever He pleases of His servants! Had God not been gracious to us, He would certainly have let the earth swallow us, too. Oh! As if He never let the ungrateful ones succeed.”
83. We assign the abode of the hereafter for those who do not intend to exult themselves in this life nor make mischief, and the end is best for the pious.
84. Whosoever does good deeds, there shall be better than it for him, and whosoever commits evil, those who commit evil shall not be recompensed save with what they had been doing.
85. Indeed, He it is Who has ordained the Qur’an to you is certainly the One that brings you back home. Say: “My Lord best knows whoever brings guidance, and whoever is in manifest error.”
86. You (O Our Prophet Muhammad) did not expect the Book to be revealed unto you, but it is a mercy from your Lord; therefore, do not side with the disbelievers.
87. Let them not turn you aside from God’s signs after having been revealed to you, and call unto your Lord and do not be a polytheist.
88. And do not call with God any other god; there is no god but He. All things are perishable save He. His is the authority, and to Him shall you all return.
