In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. (All) praise is God’s, Originator of the heavens and earth, Creator of the angels as messengers flying on wings in two, three, and four (pairs); He adds to His creation whatever He wills; verily God has power over all things.
2. Whatever God bestows of His Mercy upon people, none can withhold it, and whatever He holds back, none besides Him can send it forth; He is the Almighty, the all-Wise.
3. O people! Remember God’s bounty on you; is there any creator other than God who provides you with your sustenance from the heaven and the earth? There is no god but He; whence then are you turned away?
4. If you reject you (Muhammad), indeed people have rejected messengers before you, and to God (alone) are all affairs returned.
5. O people! Verily the Promise of God is true; so, let not the life of this world beguile you, and let not the arch-beguiler (Satan) beguile you about God.
6. Verily Satan is your enemy; so, you (too) take him as your enemy; he only invites his party to follow the path of the flaming Fire.
7. For those who disbelieve shall be a severe chastisement, and as for those who believe and do good deeds, for them shall be forgiveness and a great recompense.
8. Is he then whose evil deed is made so alluring to him that he sees it good (equal to the rightly guided? Nay! Verily God leaves whomsoever He pleases to stray, and He guides whomsoever He wills; so, let not yourself go in (vain) grief for them; verily God knows all that they do.
9. God is He Who sends the winds, and they raise clouds, then We drive them on to a country that is dead, and We give life therewith to the earth after its death; even so is the (rising of the dead in) resurrection.
10. Whosoever desires dignity, God’s (alone) is all dignity; to Him (only) ascend all the good words; as for those who plot evil deeds, for them shall be a severe chastisement; their plot shall be in vain.
11. God created you of dust, then of a life- germ, then He made you pairs (of male and female); the knowledge of whatever a female bears is with Him, and none ages nor any diminishes from one’s life except what is in a Book; verily this is easy for God.
12. Nor are the two seas alike: this one is sweet; its sweetness quenches your thirst and it is pleasant to drink, while the other is salty and bitter; yet from both of them do you eat fresh (fish) meat and take forth ornaments to wear; you see the ships cleave through it that you may seek of His Grace, and that you may be grateful.
13. He causes the night to enter into the day and the day to enter into the night, and He has made the sun and the moon subservient: each turns in its orbit till an appointed term: this is God your Lord! His is the kingdom; those whom you call upon besides Him do not own (even) a straw.
14. Should you call upon them, they shall not hear your call, and even if they hear it, they shall not answer it, and on the Day of Judgment they will denounce your associating them (with God)! None can inform you (of this) save the all-Aware.
15. O people! You are the needy to God, and God is self-Sufficient, Most Praised.
16. If He wills, He can take you off and bring about a new creation.
17. Nor is this difficult for God.
18. No bearer shall bear the burden of another. Should the heavily laden one cry for (another bearer to carry) his burden, none of it shall be carried, even if he be his near of kin. You can warn only those who fear their Lord in the unseen and keep up regular prayer; whosoever purifies himself, he only purifies it for his own good; to God (alone) is the destination (of all).
19. The blind and the seeing are never alike unto each other.
20. Nor are the darkness and the light.
21. Nor are the shade and the heat;
22. Nor are the living and the dead alike; verily God hears whomsoever He wills, and you cannot make those in the graves hear you.
23. You are but a warner.
24. Verily We sent you with the truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner. No people have ever been left without a warner among them.
25. If they call you a liar, then so indeed did those before them do: their messengers had come to them with clear proofs, with scriptures, and with an enlightening book.
26. Then I seized those who disbelieved; so, how (intense) was My abhorrence?
27. Do you not see that God sends down water from the heaven, then We bring forth with it fruits of various colours, and in the mountains are streaks of white and red hues, while others are intensely black?
28. And of the people, beasts and cattle, are likewise various complexions; verily God is feared only by those of His servants who are endowed with knowledge; indeed God is the Almighty, the oft-Forgiving.
29. Those who recite the Book of God, establish (regular) prayer and spend out of what We have provided them with secretly and openly are the ones who put their trust in a bargain that will never perish.
30. That He may give them back their full recompense and increase His Grace unto them; verily He is the oft-Forgiving, the Greatest to appreciate.
31. That which We have revealed unto you of the Book is but the truth testifying to that which has already come before it; indeed, God is all-Aware, fully-Observant of His servants.
32. Then We made the inheritors of the Book (Qur’an) those whom We chose from among Our servants. Among them is he who causes himself to suffer a loss, and among them is he who follows a middle course, and among them is he who is the foremost in doing good deeds by God’s permission; this is the greatest of God’s favours.
33. They shall enter the gardens of eternity, wherein they shall wear bracelets of gold and pearls, and their raiment therein shall be silk.
34. They shall say: “All Praise is God’s Who has taken away from us all grief; verily our Lord is oft- Forgiving, the greatest to appreciate (good deeds).
35. “He Who has settled us, through His Grace, in an eternal abode; no toil shall touch us therein, nor any fatigue shall affect us.”
36. For those who disbelieve shall be the fire of Hell; it shall not be decreed that they should ever die, nor shall aught of its torment be decreased from them. Thus do We retribute everyone who is ungrateful.
37. They shall cry aloud therein for help: “Lord! Take us out; we will do good deeds different from what we used to do.” - “Did We not keep you alive long enough, for (the good of that) who reflected to reflect therein? A warner came to you (too); so now taste (the fruits of your deeds); no helper shall ever be for the unjust.”
38. Verily God knows the unseen in the heavens and the earth; He knows all that is concealed in the heart.
39. He is the One Who made you successors in the earth; so, whosoever disbelieves, his disbelief shall be (weighed) against him. The disbelief of the infidels shall increase nothing with their Lord but Wrath, and disbelief shall increase the infidels nothing but loss.
40. Say: “Do you not see your partners whom you call upon other than God? Show me what part of the earth they have created, or have they any share in the heavens, or have We given them any scripture so that they may produce proof therefrom (of their claim)?” Nay! The unjust promise one another nothing but delusion.
41. Verily God holds the heavens and the earth lest they should come to naught. If they came to naught, none besides Him can hold them back; verily He is the Most Forbearing, the oft-Forgiving.
42. They swore by God with the strongest of their oaths that if a warner came to them, they would surely be guided aright better than (all) other people; but when warner did come to them, they increased in naught but aversion.
43. Priding in the world, and plotting evil. Their evil plans shall beset none but the devisers themselves; then they shall wait for aught save the course of the people who went before them. You shall never find any change in the Course of God, and never shall you find in the Course of God any alteration.
44. Have they not travelled throughout the world and seen how the end of those before them was, though they were stronger than them in might? God is not such that anything can frustrate Him in the heavens nor in the earth; verily He is the all-Knowing, the all-Powerful.
45. Were God to seize (punish) man for what they wrought, He would not leave on the face of earth any moving being, but He gives them a respite till an appointed term, and when their doom comes, then verily God is all-Observant of His servants.
