The Victory (al-Fath) -48

In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Verily, We have granted you a manifest victory.
2. (So) that God may forgive the past faults of your followers and the faults to come, and thus does He perfect His bounty unto you and guide you on the straight path.
3. And that God might help you with a prevailing triumph.
4. He it is Who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the faithful that they might add further faith to their faith, and God’s are the hosts of the heavens and the earth; God is all-Knowing, all-Wise.
5. That He may admit the faithful men and women to gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein, and remove their ills; that is in the sight of God a great achievement,
6. And that He may chastise the hypocrites, men and women, and the polytheist men and women, those who think evil thoughts about God; upon them is God’s wrath, and His curse; He has prepared Hell for them; what an evil journey’s end!
7. God’s are the hosts of the heavens and the earth; God is the ever-Prevalent, the all-Wise.
8. Verily We have sent you (Muhammad) a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner,
9. That you may believe in God and His messengers, and aid and revere him, and that you may celebrate His glory morning and eve.
10. Verily those who swear fealty to you do but swear it to God; the hand of God is above their hands; so, whosoever violates his oath does so only to harm his own soul, and whosoever fulfills what he has covenanted with God, soon will God grant him a great reward.
11. Those of the desert Arabs who stayed behind will say to you: “Our wealth and families distracted us; so, ask pardon for us.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts; so, say (O Muhammad): “Who then can control anything for you from God if He intends to do you any harm, or if He intends to profit you? Nay! God is well-Aware of whatever you do.
12. “Nay! You thought that the Messenger would never return, nor would the believers return to their families, and that was made fair-seeming in your minds, and you even entertain an evil thought, and you were a people lost (in wickedness).”
13. And whosoever does not believe in God and His messenger, verily We have prepared for the disbelievers a flaming Fire.
14. And God’s is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He forgives whom He pleases and chastises whom He wills; God is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
15. Soon will those who stayed behind you, when you went forth, say when you march to take the spoils of war: “Let us follow you.” They desire to change the Word of God. Say: “You shall never follow us; thus has God already said before.” But they will say: “Nay! You are jealous of us.” Nay! They understand but only a little.
16. Say to those desert Arabs who stayed behind: “You shall be called against a people of mighty prowess; you shall fight against them until they submit; then if you obey, God will grant you a goodly recompense, and if you turn back as you did before, He will chastise you with a painful chastisement.”
17. No blame shall there be on the blind, the lame, nor the sick; whosoever obeys God and His messenger, He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow, and whosoever turns back, He will chastise him with a painful chastisement.
18. Indeed God was well pleased with the believers when they pledged their fealty to you under the tree, as He did know what was in their hearts; so did He send down tranquility on them and rewarded them with a victory soon to come,
19. And gains great many which they will take, and God is ever-Prevalent, all-Wise.
20. God promised you great many spoils; He sped this (promise) to you, and withheld people from harming you, that it may be a sign to the believers, and that He may guide you on the Straight Path.
21. And other (gains) not within your reach yet; indeed God has encompassed them, and God has power over all things.
22. If those who disbelieve fight you, they would certainly turn back, then they would find neither protector nor a helper.
23. (Such has been) the course of God that came to pass before; you shall never find any change to the course of God.
24. And He it is Who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca, after having granted you victory over them; God sees whatever you do.
25. They are the ones who disbelieved and obstructed you from reaching the Sacred Mosque and the offering (which was) prevented to reach its destination. Were it not for the believing men and women, not having known them, you might have trodden down, a crime would have afflicted you on their behalf without knowledge, that He may admit into His mercy whomsoever He pleases; had they been separated, We would certainly have chastised the disbelievers among them with a painful chastisement.
26. When those who disbelieved fostered zealotry in the hearts, the zealotry of (pagan) ignorance, God sent down tranquility upon His messenger and the believers, and made them bound to the word of piety, and well were they entitled to it, worthy of it; God well knows all things.
27. Indeed God has fulfilled for His messenger the vision with the truth that: “Certainly you shall enter the sacred Mosque, if God pleases, in security, heads shaved, (some) with their hair shortened, and without fear; He knew what you did not know, and He has ordained besides this a speedy victory.
28. He it is Who sent His messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all religions, and God suffices for a witness.
29. Muhammad is the messenger of God, and those are with him are vehement against the infidels, compassionate among themselves. You see them bowing down, prostrating in obeisance (to God), seeking grace from God and (His) pleasure. Their marks are in their faces showing the effect of their (frequent) prostrations; their similitude in the Torah, and in the Evangel, is like a seed which sends forth its stalk then strengthens it, then it becomes stout, and rises firmly upon its stem, delighting the sowers-that He may cause the disbelievers to be enraged at them; God has promised those who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great recompense.
