In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth hallows the glory of God, the King, the Most Holy, the ever-Prevalent, the all-Wise.
2. He it is Who raised among the unlettered a Messenger from among their own selves, reciting to them His Signs, purifying them and teaching them the Book (Qur’an) and the wisdom, although they were before that in manifest straying.
3. And to the others from among them who have not yet joined with them, and He is the ever-Prevalent, the all-Wise.
4. That is the grace of God; He grants it to whomsoever He pleases, and God is the Lord of Great Bounty.
5. The similitude of those who were entrusted with the Torah, and they did not honour the trust, is like a donkey bearing books; wretched is the similitude of the people who falsify the signs of God, and God does not guide the unjust people.
6. Say: “O you who profess Judaism! If you claim that you (alone) are the favourites of God, excluding every other nation, then desire death if you are truthful.”
7. But they will never desire it for what their own hands had sent before, and God well knows all about those who commit injustice.
8. Say: “The death from which you flee will surely meet you, then you shall be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, then He will inform you of whatever you used to do.”
9. O you who believe! When the call is made for prayer on Friday, then hasten, all of you, to remembering God, and abandon all trading; that is better for you, if you only know.
10. And when the prayer commences, disperse in the land and seek of the grace of God, and remember God much so that you may be successful.
11. And when they see a bargain or amusement, they break away to it, leaving you (O Muhammad) standing. Say: “What is with God is better than sport and merchandise, and God is the best of sustainers.”
