In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. When the hypocrites came to you, they said: “We bear witness that you are the Messenger of God,” and surely God knows that you (Muhammad) are His Messenger, and surely God bears witness that the hypocrites are liars.
2. They make their oaths a shield, thus obstructing others from the way of God; verily evil are their deeds.
3. That is because they believed, then they disbelieved; therefore, a seal was set upon their hearts, so they do not understand.
4. When you see them, their bodies please you, and when they speak, you listen to their speech, as if they were blocks of wood propped up in garments. They deem that every cry is against them. They are your enemy; so beware of them; God annihilate them whence they deviate.
5. When it is said to them: “Come; the Messenger of God will seek God’s forgiveness for you,” they turn their heads back, and you see them turning away in arrogance.
6. It is the same for them whether you seek forgiveness for them or not; God will never forgive them; verily God does not guide the transgressing people.
7. They are the ones who say (to those who help the believing refugees): “Do not spend anything on those who are with the Messenger of God until they break up.” God’s are the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.
8. They say: “If we return to Medina, the honourable ones shall drive the meaner ones out;” but to God all honour belongs, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
9. O you who believe! Let not your wealth nor children distract you from remembering God; whosoever does so is a losers.
10. And spend of what We have provided you with (in the way of God) before death approaches any of you, then he would say: “O Lord! Why do not You grant me a respite till a near term so that I may give alms and do good deeds?”
11. God does not grant a respite to any soul when its fixed time approaches, and God is all-Aware of whatever you do.
