In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. O Our Prophet! (Tell the believers): When you divorce your women, divorce them at their prescribed period, and reckon their iddat, and fear God, your Lord. Do not turn them out of their homes, nor shall they (themselves) go out, unless they commit an open indecency. These are the limits of God; whosoever transgresses the limits of God indeed commits injustice against his own soul. You do not know that perchance God may bring about some new situation thereafter.
2. When they reach their iddat, either retain them with fairness or part with them with kindness, and call to witness two men (endowed) with justice, and establish the witness (as though it were) before God. Thus admonished is he who believes in God and the last day. Whosoever fears God, He will make for him a way (out of trouble).
3. And provide him with sustenance from whence he reckons not. Whosoever relies on God, then He is sufficient for him; verily God accomplishes His purpose; indeed God has prescribed for everything its due measure.
4. And (such of) those of your women who despair of menstruation, should you doubt, their prescribed term shall be three months, and (the same is the case) of those who have not yet had the course; (as for) those pregnant women, their prescribed iddat shall be till they deliver their burden. Whosoever fears God, He will ease his affair for him.
5. This is the Command of God which He has revealed to you, and whosoever fears God, He will wipe out from him his sins and will increase for him the recompense.
6. Lodge them wherever you lodge according to your means, and do not harm them so as to restrict them. If they are pregnant, spend on them until they lay their burden down; if they suckle (your offspring) for you, give them their recompense, and deal with one another fairly. If you find yourselves in (physical and/or psychological) difficulties, then some other woman shall suckle for him.
7. Let him with abundance spend of his abundance, and let him whose resources are restricted spend of what God has given him; God lays no burden on any soul save to the extent to which He has enabled it; God will soon bring about ease after difficulty.
8. How many a town which rebelled against the Command of its Lord and His Messenger did We call to a severe account? We chastised it with a stern chastisement.
9. So it tasted the evil consequences of its deeds, and the end of its conduct was perdition.
10. God has prepared for them a severe chastisement, so fear God, O believers endowed with understanding! Indeed God has sent down to you a reminder,
11. A Messenger who recites to you the clear signs of God, that he may bring out those who believe and do good deeds out of the darkness into the light. He shall admit whoever believes in God and does good deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein forever. God has bestowed upon him a goodly sustenance.
12. God is He Who created the seven heavens and the earth, a similar number, and commands are sent down amidst them, that you may know that God has power over all things, and that God’s knowledge encompasses all things.
