In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Read (recite)! In the name of your Lord Who created (everything),
2. He created man from a clot!
3. Recite (O Muhammad!) And your Lord is the Most Honourable!
4. Who taught the use of the pen,
5. Taught man what he never knew,
6. Nay! Verily man is a wont rebel!
7. He deems himself needless!
8. Verily to your Lord (alone) is the return!
9. Have you seen the man who forbids-
10. A servant from praying?
11. Have you seen if he were on right guidance?
12. Or enjoined piety?
13. Have you seen if he belies the truth and turns back?
14. Does he not know that God sees?
15. Nay! If he does not desist, We shall surely drag him by the forelock!
16. A forelock that is lying, sinful!
17. Then let him summon his fellows in council,
18. We too will summon the angels of Hell.
19. Nay! Do not heed him, and prostrate in obeisance, and draw yourself nearer (to Him).
