The prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) - Islam Guidance

  • 17th of Rabi' al-awwal, a Historic Day

At the dawn of Friday, 17th Rabi' al-awwal, in 530 A.D. a child born whose birth was announced in the divine Books (Old and New testaments). Muhammad ibn Abdullah is the last great prophet (who has divine book), and the mercy for the inhabitants of the world, whom the exalted God granted to mankind, and forever his light brightened the world.
Eighty-three years after Hijrat, on 17th Rabi' al-awwal, a child from holy prophet's progeny born, who was entitled as Sadiq- Ale- Muhammad. His knowledge and information, in all sciences, was so extensive that in all debates, with other scholars, his presentation was brilliant. Historians have narrated that Imam Sadiq (A.S) had 4000 students. In his time, jurisprudence (Fiqh) and Islamic teachings flourished. It was also the age of progress of tradition manifestation and appearance of the important Islamic philosophies.
The Holy Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H&H.P) says, "The ways which guide my followers toward paradise are virtues, and good behavior." (Kafi, Vol 2, P.100) Imam Sadiq (A.S) says, "To the exalted God, the best acts of the good servant are to make pious man happy, to feed him, to remove his grief, and to pay for his debt." (Kafi, Vol 2, P.199)
The Holy Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H&H.P) and his infallible and innocent family are the best symbols for mankind. We conclude from two above traditions that virtues and good behavior are two characters that attract God and servant's satisfactions, and finally will lead to paradise.
It is a duty for every Muslim, to take care of not only his faithful brothers and sisters, but also all the fellow- creatures in different respects, and to solve their problems as much as possible.

  • Co-operation, the Key To Success

The Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P). was once travelling with his companions. They stopped at a place to have something to eat and then rest. They decided to slaughter a sheep and roast it.
One of them said, “I shall do the slaughtering.”
The other said, “I shall remove the skin.”
The third one said, “I shall do the roasting.”
Each one of them volunteered to do one piece of work.
The Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) of Islam said, “I shall collect and bring the firewood from the forest.”
The companions said, “Oh Prophet! You need not take the trouble. We shall attend to everything.”
    The Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) said, “I know you can do everything. But I do not like to enjoy a preferential treatment from you. God Almighty does not like to see a person distinguishing himself from his companions.” Thus the Prophet went and brought firewood from the forest;
This is one of the examples set by the Prophet of Islam on co-operation and working together for a common good.

  • Descent of the first revelation (Wahy)

Shiites commentators believe that Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) was appointed on 27th of Rajab , five years after the rehabilitation of Kaaba. He was forty years old at that time.
Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) had come to Haraa cave as usual to say prayers and meditate . On 27th of Rajab, Gabriel (one of the four superior angels who was ordered by Allah (S.W.T) to convey revelation to prophets) descended to him. Gabriel shook Prophet Muhammad's (P.B.U.H&H.P) arm and said: "O Muhammad! Read!" He replied:" What shall I read?" Gabriel recited the beginning verses of Chapter (Surah) al-Alaq:
"In the name of Allah, the compassionate, the merciful. Read in the name of your Lord who has created. Has created man from a leech [Spermatozoa]. Read and your Lord is the most honourable, who taught (to write) with the pen; taught man what he knew not."
Some great events happened at the time of Prophet Muhammad's (P.B.U.H&H.P) appointment. For instance, a groan was heard. Imam Ali (A.S) says about that: "I heard Satan's groan when the first revelation was descended. I asked the Prophet: "What was that?" He answered: "it was Satan, who got disappointed by not being obeyed." He also said: "You hear what I hear and see what ever I see; except you are not a prophet. You are my assistant and you will never leave the right way."
As mentioned before, Imam Ali (A.S) accompanied Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) in different cases such as his seclusion periods. This narration, written in Nahj al-Balaghah, implies that he was with Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) when revelation was descended for the first time. It is inferred through the history that he was the only person with Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) at that time. Nobody else has claimed to be with Him then.
Gabriel ascended after conveying revelation and accomplishing his job.

    Return from cave Haraa
After this revelation, Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) returned to His home in Mecca. When he arrived home, he explained the story of his appointment to his wife. Khadijah (S.A), who had recognized the Prophet's (P.B.U.H&H.P) dignity and truthfulness for years, said: "By God, it is a long time that I have been waiting for this very day; and I was hoping that one day you would become the Leader and the Messenger of these people."

The descent of Chapter (Surah) al-Muddathir
In the first days of Prophet's appointment, while he was resting, Gabriel descended and read the first verses of Chapter al-Muddathir.
This Chapter of the Holy Quran contains verses, which say that from then on, the Prophet had to pay all his attention to warn people to obey Allah (S.W.T). Therefore, the first verses of the Holy book of Islam were revealed to Prophet and he was assigned to be the Messenger of Allah (S.W.T).

  • Hazrat Abu Talib’s will

It is narrated from Maqatil that Hazrat Abu Talib (A.S) made a will to Bani Hashim at the time of his death:
‘O Bani Hashim, if you all obey the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) and if you all believe in his truthfulness you will be guided.’
In madarij un nubuwwah (of Muhaddis Dehlavi) and in Rauzat-us-safa vol. 2 the following sermon of Hazrat Abu Talib (A.S) addressing the people, which also served as his will, has been recorded.
‘O Quraysh! You are the most pious servants of Allah. I recommend Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) to you in matters of righteousness and virtue. He is the trusted one of Quraysh and the truthful one of Arabia and he possesses all the virtues for which I am making a will to you. He (P.B.U.H&H.P) has brought such good news, which has been accepted by your hearts, but your tongue has chosen to deny it on account of fear of taunts. On the contrary, I see that the weak and the defenceless have accepted his (P.B.U.H&H.P) invitation and have testified in his Sharia and revere him. Thus they have become the leaders and your chiefs have been humiliated. The proud ones have been humbled and the humble ones have become self-sufficient. Those who distanced themselves from him (P.B.U.H&H.P) are the unfortunate ones. I can see that the people of Arabia are attached to him (P.B.U.H&H.P) and have expanded their hearts for his love and have very dutifully and diligently prepared themselves to follow him and serve him. O Quraysh! Befriend Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) and supporters of his group. I swear by Allah those people who do not tread the path shown by him (P.B.U.H&H.P) will not find guidance, and only they will accept and adhere to his ways and qualities who are virtuous. If death could have been delayed and there would have been some more time left in my life, I would be helping him and as far as possible I would have repelled all dangers from his path.’
Alas! Hazrat Abu Talib’s (A.S) last wish was not fulfilled and death did not spare him for a moment. The Quraysh rejected the friendly advice given to them by Hazrat Abu Talib (A.S) and left and walked out angrily. After some time this great helper of Islam answered the call of His Lord and returned to Him. Now Islam was devoid of the shelter of this generous helper who for 50 years had undertaken the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H&H.P). He had taken all the blows on himself, which the polytheists and opponents of Islam had tried to inflict by their taunts and actions. Even in his old age he was enthusiastic in contributing for the progress and propagation of Islam.

  • Music and Dancing: A Major Sin

    Definitions of Music
The art of combining sounds or sequences of notes into harmonious patterns that is pleasing to the ear. Any sound that is produced for entertainment and is capable of exciting passion. Sounds that produce a strange type of sorrow or pleasure for the listener.

    Origin of Music
When the Prophet Adam died Cain, the one who killed his brother Able out of jealousy, wanted to share his happiness with Satan. To celebrate his father's death, Cain and Satan created musical instruments.

    Bad Effects of Music
Increases blood pressure and blood sugar content and slows the human digestive system.
The excitement and tension from music can cause ulcers, affect the hearing, and produces emotional instability.
Music destroys the sense of shame and self-respect and removes feelings of love, humanness, and mercy: Music is the ladder of fornication.  (Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H&H.P))
It creates hypocrisy: Listening to music, songs, and useless words cultivates hypocrisy in the heart in the same way. (Imam Sadiq (A.S))
Music causes poverty: Music creates hypocrisy and causes poverty.  (Imam Ali (A.S))
It causes forgetfulness of God: The house where music is played is not safe from sudden disasters.  Supplications at such a place are not answered.  Angels do not enter this place.  (Imam Sadiq (A.S))

    Punishments for Music
Molten lead shall be poured into the ears of one who listens intently to songs.  (Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H&H.P))
Whenever a person begins singing, two Satan alight upon his shoulders and continue to beat upon his chest, till the time he continues the song.  (Imam Sadiq (A.S))
When the singer shall emerge from his grave on the Day of Judgment, he shall be blind, deaf, and also mute.  (Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H&H.P))
Music is that sin which has been promised a penalty of fire (of Hell) by the Almighty Allah.  Since it is evident that whichever sin has been promised Hell as its punishment is a major sin.  It could be derived from the above tradition that singing is also a sin of the same category.  (Imam Baqir (A.S))

  • Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) ordered by Allah (S.W.T) to recite the merits of Imam Ali (A.S)

Imam Baqir (A.S) narrates from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P):
Gabriel came to me and said:
Allah has ordered you to give a speech about Ali bin Abi Taleb's virtues in front of your companions so that they can narrate it to others. Allah has ordered all of the angels to listen to your speech. Allah says that those who disobey you by not following Ali will go to Hell, and those who obey you will be rewarded with Paradise.
So the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) called for prayer and when people gathered, the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) went on the pulpit and he started by saying:

    بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

O people! I am the bearer of glad tidings and I am the Warner. I am the Prophet from Mecca.
Allah has ordered me to tell you about a man whose flesh is from my flesh and whose blood is from my blood. He is the keeper of knowledge. He is the one whom Allah chose from this nation and appointed as the Wali.
Allah has created the two of us together. Allah elevated me above all people by honoring me with prophet hood and Allah elevated him above all people by appointing him as my successor.
Allah made me the city of knowledge and made him the door. Allah chose him as the keeper of knowledge with which he defines the rules.
Allah has chosen him as my successor and Allah has revealed his status to everyone.
Allah has warned his enemies and Allah has brought his followers closer to Himself.
Allah has forgiven his Shia and Allah has ordered all of the people to obey him.
Allah says that those who are against Ali are against Allah and those who disobey Ali disobey Allah. Those who hurt Ali hurt Allah and those who hate Ali hate Allah. Those who love Ali love Allah and those who desire Ali desire Allah. Those who conspire against Ali conspire against Allah and those who support Ali support Allah.
O people! Listen to my orders and obey me. I am warning you of Allah's punishment:
[(Remember) the day when every soul shall find present whatever it has done of good and whatever it has done of evil; it will wish there might be a wide interval between it and that (evil), Allah warns you to beware of Him; and Allah is affectionate to His faithful servants] (3:30).
Then the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) took the hand of the Commander of the Believers, Ali ibn Abi Taleb (A.S), and said:
O People! He is the Master of the Believers and he is Allah's decisive argument on His entire creation. Ali is the fighter of the as.
O Allah! I have announced it! And these are your slaves and you have the power to reform them, so reform them with your mercy, for You are the most merciful.
I seek forgiveness for myself and for you, O people.
Then the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) descended the pulpit.
Gabriel came to the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) and said to him:
Allah conveys His Salaam to you and says, "I will reward you for what you have announced. You have fulfilled your duty of prophet hood. You have advised your nation. You have pleased the believers and you have constrained the pagans. O Mohammad! Your cousin will be made to suffer and people will suffer with him. O Mohammad! Say at all times, [Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. And soon those who deal unjustly shall know as to what an evil turning they shall be turned] (26:227).

  • Respect your Wife

A woman is proud of herself just the same as a man would be. She likes to be respected by others. She would get hurt if she were to be insulted or belittled. She feels good when respected and would hate those who try to degrade her.
Dear Sir! your wife surely expects you to respect her more than others. She has every right to expect her life partner and best friend to care for her.
She works for you and your children's comfort and thus expects you to value her efforts and to respect her. Honoring her would not belittle you but it would indeed go to prove your love and affection towards her. Therefore, respect her more than others and talk to her politely. Do not interrupt her or shout at her. Call her by respectful and virtuous names. Show your respect when she wants to sit down. When you enter the house, if she forgets to say 'Salam' (greetings), then you should say 'Salam' to her.
Say 'Good-bye' when leaving your house. Do not lose contact with her when travelling or away from home. Write to her.
Show your respect for her when in gatherings. Seriously avoid all insults and humiliation. Do not abuse or even jokingly tease her. Do not think that because you are close to her she would not mind you making fun of her. On the contrary she will dislike such an attitude but may not express it.
All women expect their husbands to respect them and all of them hate insults If some women keep silent before their husbands' humiliations, it is not the proof of their satisfaction.
If you respect your wife, she will do the same to you and thus your relationship will grow stronger. You would also earn more respect from others. If you maltreat her and she retaliates, it is again your fault and not hers.
Dear Sir! marrying is not equal to getting a slave. You cannot treat a free person as a slave. Your wife has married you in order to live with you and to share her life with a man whom she loves. She expects the same things from you as you do from her. Therefore treat her in a manner in which you would like to be treated.
"Imam Sadiq (A.S), quoting his father, stated: 'Whoever marries, must respect his wife'." [Bihar al-Anwar, vol 103, p 224]
"The Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) of Allah stated: 'Whoever respects a Muslim, Allah would pay him his own respect'." [Ibid, vol 74, p 303]
"The Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) of Allah also stated: 'None would respect women except the magnanimous ones, and none would insult them except the ignoble ones.' In addition, the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) of Allah stated: 'Whoever insults his family, would lose happiness in his life'." [Mawa iz al-Adadiyyah, p 151]
