  • Investing for the Hereafter

Zubaydah was the wife of Haroon al-Rasheed, the Abbasid Caliph and also a secret follower of Imam Kazim (A.S), Being the wife of the caliph and by virtue of being a queen, she was the most important woman of her time.
    It is related that:
One day Zubaydah was reciting the Holy Quran when she came across the verse which reads:
You shall never attain righteousness until you spend (in the cause of Allah) of what you love (most)…(3:92)

As soon as she read this verse, Zubaydah got up from her place and opened up her treasury (safe) to see what was the thing she loved most from her possessions and she discovered that it was the Holy Quran, the writings of which was gilt-covered (coated with gold). The gold was not an ordinary gold. It was the most expensive type of those days.
Immediately, Zubaydah called for a Jeweler, had the gold removed from the Holy Quran, and gave it away in the cause of Allah (S.W.T). She sold off the gold and whatever value she got for it, she spent the money to build a fountain of water in Taif, from the source of which, even today water flows in to Makkah and benefits the pilgrims.  (Tafseer of Suratul-Hadeed: Ayatollah Dast Ghayb)
O you who believe! Spend out of what we have given you before the day comes when there shall be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession and the disbelievers – they are unjust”. (2:254)
And whatever good thing you spend, is to your own good; and do not spend except to seek the pleasure of Allah”. (2:272)
Imam ‘Ali (A.S) has said, “No one shall benefit anything from this world (after he dies) except what he had spent (from it) for his Hereafter”.  (Meezan al-Hikmah)

  • Ka'ba, the center of monotheism

The journey of servitude and love to Mecca has started. It's a fascinating journey. In this journey, the holy Ka'ba, the symbolic House of God, as the focal point of monotheism, is the center of gravity for all pilgrims.
It attracts hearts like a powerful magnate to such an extent that the pilgrims circumambulate it like moths going round the lamp. This is indeed a lively sight and a spectacle of Islamic unity. It is the House which God has decreed as the heart of the world. As God says in ayah 96 of Surah Aal-e Imran:
"Most surely the First House to be set up for mankind is the one at Bekka, blessed and guidance for all nations."
Historical resources are unanimous that the Ka'ba was built by the Father of the human race, Adam. We read that after building the Ka'ba, on God's command, Adam circumambulated around it. In the subsequent centuries or millenniums, the Prophets of God would make the journey to the holy Ka'ba. In the great flood of the times of Prophet Noah, the Ka'ba was damaged. Centuries later, God assigned Prophet Abraham to reconstruct the Ka'ba as the manifestation of monotheism and to invite people to worship God. Ka'ba has been the symbol of monotheism throughout history. Abraham left his wife and firstborn son, Ishmael beside this supreme symbol of monotheism for holding prayer in order to be a base for the world monotheists.
As is evident by its name the Ka'ba is a cubic edifice. It stands about 15 meters high; it is 12 meters long and 10 meters wide in the middle of a spacious courtyard which has been surrounded by the Masjid al-Haram. It is a very simple edifice without any decoration, yet it is very glorious, and has withstood the ravages of time.
The Ka'ba is indeed the source of guidance. After Abraham and Ishmael the sanctity of the Ka'ba was violated by the infidel Arabs. With the advent of Islam the Ka'ba again regained its prominence, especially after the peaceful surrender of Mecca to the Prophet and Muslims in 8 AH when it was cleansed of the filth of idols. Some years earlier, God decreed that the Ka'ba ought to be the Qibla of Muslims. The commandment came while Prophet was praying in Medina with face turned towards the direction of the al-Aqsa Mosque in Bait al-Moqaddas. In Surah Baqara, verse 144, we read:
"We certainly see you turning your face about to the heaven, so we shall surely turn you to a qiblah of your liking; turn then your face towards the Sacred Mosque, and wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it…"
The Ka'ba is the axis of Islamic worship. Muslims turn to it from all over the world at least five times a day for the daily prayers. The most important message of circumambulating the Ka'ba is Islamic solidarity and humbleness towards the Unseen and Omnipotent God.
Ka'ba has been decreed to be a safe and secure place for all people. It is the source of spiritual perfection. Those who tried to violate the sanctity of the Ka'ba were themselves destroyed. For instance, when Abraha, the Abyssinian governor of Yemen came to the Ka'ba at the head of elephant led corps, he was struck by divine wrath and his elephantine horde was destroyed. That was the year of the birth of the Prophet, and the custodian of the Ka'ba then was the Prophet's grandfather, Abdul-Mutallib.
The miraculous destruction of Abraha's elephantine army by a flock of birds carrying pebbles in their beak is mentioned in the holy Qur'an.
After the heartrending tragedy of Karbala and martyrdom of Imam Husain (A.S), the tyrant Yazid sent an army from Syria which attacked the holy Ka'ba and damaged it with fire and catapults. Even as the attack was underway, news reached from Damascus of the mysterious death of Yazid while on a hunting trip. Only his severed leg atop at horse was found and the whole body went straightaway into hell.
It is also worth mentioning that the Ka'ba is the place where the one and only person born in its sacred precincts, was none other than the Prophet's cousin, ward, son-in-law, and vicegerent, Imam Ali ibn Abi Taleb (A.S).

  • Khadija tul Kubra (S.A)

Lady Khadija (S.A) is a perfect role model for all the Muslims all over the world. The sacrifices made by her and her contributions for spreading Islam are innumerable. Her famous title was Malikat-ul-Arab.
The biggest virtue of lady Khadija (S.A) is that Allah (S.W.T) acknowledged her sacrifices and revealed the following verse for her when She (S.A) have all the wealth to Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P):
"And when we found you in need, we made you needless"
    [Sura 93 (Zuha): Verse 8]
Some virtues of lady Khadija (S.A) are mentioned below:
1- Lady Khadija (S.A) got the title "SAYYIDATU NISA-IL-AALAMEEN" before her holiest daughter lady Fatima Zahra (S.A). [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
2- Lady Khadija (S.A) was on the path of Islam (Sharia of Ibrahim) before the Be'sat of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) & the proof is her marriage. [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
3- Lady Khadija (S.A) did not have any idols at her palace nor was she seen worshipping any idol by any Arab. [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
4- Aisha said: The best way to make Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) happy is to talk about Khadija. [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
5- Lady Khadija (S.A) was amongst the best women of the world, such as herself, lady Fatima (S.A), lady Maryam (S.A) & Asiya (S.A). [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
6- She was the richest holy women ever born. She had uncountable riches. She had around 80000 camels which were taken on hire by all Arabs for business trip to different parts of the world. [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]
7- Khadija (S.A), Daughter of Khuwaylid, is one of the wealthy persons among Quraysh and her trade activities extend to Egypt and Ethiopia. [Ref: Bihar ul Anwar, Vol 16, Pg. 22]
8- Once lady Khadija (S.A) sent "Maysara" a slave with the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) for the business trip to Syria to know more about the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P). When lady Khadija (S.A) enquired from Maysarah about the incidents related to the journey of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) he narrated to her the miracles which he had seen from him and also what he had heard from the monk of Syria. Khadija (S.A) felt excessive emotion within herself, which had its origin in her interest in the spirituality of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) and she said to Maysarah involuntarily "Maysarah! That will do. I hereby set you and your wife free and also place at your disposal two hundred dirhams, two horses and a costly dress. [Ref: Hayat Al-Qulub]

  • Merits of Recitation of sura Ya-Sin

The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H&H.P) has said, "Anyone who enters a cemetery and recites Surat Ya-Sin will have then decreased their [the dead] suffering and will receive good deeds equaling the number of those buried therein." He (P.B.U.H&H.P) has also said that in the Torah it is described as the Chapter that crowns the one who recites it with the best of the life of this world and the life hereafter, and it wards off from him the trials of this life and the torment of the life to come. Imam Al-Sadiq (A.S) is quoted saying that whoever recites this Chapter seeking the Pleasure of Allah will be forgiven and will be granted of the rewards as though he had recited the entire text of the Holy Qur'an twelve times. He (A.S) has also said, "For everything there is a heart, and the heart of the Qur'an is Chapter Ya-Sin; so, whoever recites it during the day will be protected and sustained till the night."

  • Mourning for Imam Hussein (A.S)

Al-Shaykh al-Saduq (the truthful scholar) mentions:
Muhammad ibn Ali Majiluyeh said: Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated to us from his father from al Rayyan ibn Shabib, He said: I came into the presence of al Reza (A.S) on the first day of Muharram. He said to me: O son of Shabib! Are you fasting? I said: No. So he said: Verily this day is the day on which Zechariah (A.S) called upon his Lord (S.W.T). He said: My Lord! Grant me good offspring from Thee; surely Thou art the Hearer of the prayer. [Sura Ale-Imran, 3:38]. So Allah answered him and ordered the angels to call out to Zechariah (A.S) while he was standing in the mihrab (the prayer-niche), that: Verily Allah gives you the glad-tidings of Yahya. [Sura Ale-Imran, 3:39]. Whoever fasts this day and then calls out to Allah (S.W.T), Allah will respond to him like He responded to Zechariah (A.S).
    Then he said:
    - O son of Shabib! Muharram is the month in which the people of the ignorant (Jahiliyyah) from the past would prohibit oppression and fighting due to its sanctity but this nation did not recognize the sanctity of its month nor the sanctity of its Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P). They killed his offspring in this month and captured his women and plundered his burdens (provisions). So Allah will not forgive them that, ever.
    - O son of Shabib! If you were to cry over anything, then cry over Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S), for he was slaughtered like the ram is slaughtered. And eighteen men from the people of his house, the like of whom are not to be found on the earth, were murdered with him. The seven heavens and the earths wailed over his killing. Four thousand of the angels descended toward the earth but they found that he had been murdered. So they shall remain disheveled, dusty till the Mahdi rises; then they will be from his helpers. And their slogan is: Vengeance for the blood of Husain!
    - O son of Shabib! My father narrated to me from his father from his grandfather (A.S): Verily when my grandfather, Hussain (A.S) was killed, the sky rained down blood and red dust.
    - O son of Shabib! If you wept over Hussain (A.S) to the extent that your tears came onto your cheeks, Allah will forgive all of your sins which you have committed, minor or major, little or excessive.
    - O son of Shabib! If you take pleasure in meeting Allah (S.W.T) while there is no sin over you, then visit Hussain (A.S).
    - O son of Shabib! If you take pleasure in residing in the erected chamber in Jannah along with the Prophet and his progeny (A.S), then curse the murderer of Hussain.
    - O son of Shabib! If you take pleasure in having a like of the reward of the one who was martyred with Hussain (A.S), then whenever you mention him, say: How I wish I was with them! I would have attained a great victory!
    - O son of Shabib! If you take pleasure in being with us in the highest stages of the Gardens, then grieve over our sorrow and be happy in our happiness. And you must keep to our Wilayah, for verily, were a man to befriend a stone, Allah will raise him with it on the Day of Resurrection.

O Prophet! Indeed we have sent you as a witness, as a bearer of good news and as a warner and as a summoned to Allah by His permission, and as a radiant lamp.” (Quran 33:45, 46)
The Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P), when a Jew asked him about the reason for him being called Muhammad, Ahmad, Abu al-Qasim, Bashir, Nadhir, and Dai - he replied, 'As for Muhammad, I am praised [mahmud] in this earth, and Ahmad is that I am praised in the Heaven . As for Abu al-Qasim, Allah will divide the Day of Resurrection into two parts; the part (qisma) of Hell, and those who disbelieve in me from among the first ones to the last ones will be in the Hellfire; and the part of Heaven, and whoever believes in me from among the first ones to the last ones, and has acknowledged my prophet hood will be in Heaven. Al-Dai [the caller] is that I call people to the religion of my Lord Almighty. Al-Nadhir [the warner] is that I warn people who disobey me about the Hellfire. • Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) ordered by Allah (S.W.T) to recite the merits of Imam Ali (A.S)

Imam Baqir (A.S) narrates from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H&H.P):
Gabriel came to me and said:
Allah has ordered you to give a speech about Ali bin Abi Taleb's virtues in front of your companions so that they can narrate it to others. Allah has ordered all of the angels to listen to your speech. Allah says that those who disobey you by not following Ali will go to Hell, and those who obey you will be rewarded with Paradise.
So the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) called for prayer and when people gathered, the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) went on the pulpit and he started by saying:

    بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

O people! I am the bearer of glad tidings and I am the Warner. I am the Prophet from Mecca.
Allah has ordered me to tell you about a man whose flesh is from my flesh and whose blood is from my blood. He is the keeper of knowledge. He is the one whom Allah chose from this nation and appointed as the Wali.
Allah has created the two of us together. Allah elevated me above all people by honoring me with prophet hood and Allah elevated him above all people by appointing him as my successor.
Allah made me the city of knowledge and made him the door. Allah chose him as the keeper of knowledge with which he defines the rules.
Allah has chosen him as my successor and Allah has revealed his status to everyone.
Allah has warned his enemies and Allah has brought his followers closer to Himself.
Allah has forgiven his Shia and Allah has ordered all of the people to obey him.
Allah says that those who are against Ali are against Allah and those who disobey Ali disobey Allah. Those who hurt Ali hurt Allah and those who hate Ali hate Allah. Those who love Ali love Allah and those who desire Ali desire Allah. Those who conspire against Ali conspire against Allah and those who support Ali support Allah.
O people! Listen to my orders and obey me. I am warning you of Allah's punishment:
[(Remember) the day when every soul shall find present whatever it has done of good and whatever it has done of evil; it will wish there might be a wide interval between it and that (evil), Allah warns you to beware of Him; and Allah is affectionate to His faithful servants] (3:30).
Then the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) took the hand of the Commander of the Believers, Ali ibn Abi Taleb (A.S), and said:
O People! He is the Master of the Believers and he is Allah's decisive argument on His entire creation. Ali is the fighter of the as.
O Allah! I have announced it! And these are your slaves and you have the power to reform them, so reform them with your mercy, for You are the most merciful.
I seek forgiveness for myself and for you, O people.
Then the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) descended the pulpit.
Gabriel came to the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) and said to him:
Allah conveys His Salaam to you and says, "I will reward you for what you have announced. You have fulfilled your duty of prophet hood. You have advised your nation. You have pleased the believers and you have constrained the pagans. O Mohammad! Your cousin will be made to suffer and people will suffer with him. O Mohammad! Say at all times, [Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. And soon those who deal unjustly shall know as to what an evil turning they shall be turned] (26:227).

The Qur'an is not a book of science but a book of signs, yet it contains some undeniable facts related to science.
It wasn't Until recently that pain receptors in the skin were discovered. Without these pain receptors, a person would not be able to feel pain.
Allah mentioned this in the Qur'an over 1400 years ago.

  • Sending Blessings on the Holy Prophet & his family (Salutation)

Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet, O you who believe! Send your blessings on him, and solute him a thorough salutation”. (33:56) one of the best ways to know the personality of great men is to study their literature and listen to their words. As Imam Ali (A.S) states in Nahjul-Balagha: "Man is hidden behind his tongue” meaning by our words we introduce ourselves not with our certificates.
Different people according to their job use different jargons. Politicians have their own jargons, as physicians do, as drivers do etc. The jargons of truck drivers are different from professors. Therefore, when people talk you can more or less depending on your skills in this field can tell which class of society do they belong to.
First of all let’s read a Hadith from Imam Reza (A.S):
Shaykh Saduq one of our distinguishing Olama who was living in the 4th century AH has written a book named ‘Uyun-Akhbar Al-Reza ' meaning ‘the fountains of the wisdom words of Imam Reza’. I quote the Hadith under the consideration from this book.
Imam Reza (A.S): “O Allah! Send your blessings onto the one that Daily Prayers is honored with having the Salawat on him'.
Salam and Salawat on the Prophet is an established fact in the Quran. In Sura 33 verse 56 we recite:
Allah and His Angels send Salat on the Prophet, O you who believe! Send Salat on him and solute him a thorough salutation”. (33:56)
Sending Salam and Salawat to the prophet of Islam, is one of the distinguishing characteristics of our Prophet, of which the previous prophets were deprived. Muslims across the world from the time the above verse has been revealed up to the Day of Great Judgment are bound to send their Salawat onto the Prophet of Islam. Muslims five times a day when they call for Adhan and Eqama and even in their daily Prayers send their Salawat onto the Prophet of Islam.
This is due to the Divine Promise that “And We raised high for you your esteem” (94:4)

    The Meaning of Salawat
    1. Salawat is the plural form of Salat which simply means ‘to call' (Do'a). The reality of calling is that the person who calls tries to attract the attention of the one who is called to. This type of attracting the attention if it comes from a higher is called blessing (Rahmat) and if it comes from a lower is called pray (Do'a).

    2. It is an established fact in Islamic Erfan that the existence of the Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H&H.P) is the first existent came from Allah. In other words, his existence is on the peak of the cone of the creation. That means the blessing of existence which contains all other blessings comes to the prophet first and then goes to others. The prayer of people to Allah does not reach Him unless through His Messenger, as the blessings of Allah does not reach His creatures unless through His Messenger.

Therefore, the Salawat of Allah to the Prophet since it comes from Allah the Omnipotent, He is sending the constant blessings to His Messenger and hence, the Prophet becomes ‘ Rahmatun-lelalamin' (blessing for the universe). As, the Salawat of people to the Prophet is to pray to God to send His blessings to them through the Prophet who is Rahmatun-Lelalamin.

  • The Date and its uses as described in the Quran

In a number of Qur'anic verses, the humble date is honored as one of the blessings of Paradise. (Qur'an, 55:68) When this fruit is examined, it can be seen to have a great many important features. One of the oldest known species of plant, the date is today a food of preference not only for its delicious taste but also for its nutritious properties. New benefits imparted by the date are being discovered every day and has come to be used as a medicine as well as a food. These features of the date are noted in Surah Maryam:
The pains of labor drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She [Maryam] said: "Oh if only I had died before this time and was something discarded and forgotten!" A voice called out to her from under her, "Do not grieve! Your Lord has placed a small stream at your feet. Shake the trunk of the palm towards you and fresh, ripe dates will drop down onto you. Eat and drink and delight your eyes…" (Qur'an, 19:23-26)
There is considerable wisdom in the way that Allah recommends Maryam to eat this fruit. The date is an excellent choice of food for the pregnant women and for those who have just given birth. This is a widely accepted scientific fact. Maryam was inspired to understand this point, in order to make her own labor easier. The date has one of the highest sugar levels, 60-65%, of all fruits. Doctors recommend that pregnant women be given foods containing fruit sugar on the day they give birth. The aim behind this is to energies and revitalizes the mother's weakened body and at the same time to stimulate the milk hormones and increase the levels of mother's milk essential to the new-born baby.
In addition, loss of blood during birth leads to a fall in body sugar levels. Dates are important from the point of view of enabling sugar to enter the body and prevent blood pressure from dropping. Their high calorific value strengthens people weakened by illness or suffering from extreme fatigue.
These facts reveal the wisdom in the way that Allah recommended Maryam to eat dates, designed to energies and invigorate the woman and ensure the emergence of milk, the only food for a baby. For example, the date contains more than ten elements of vital importance if the body is to remain healthy and energetic. Modern-day scientists state that human beings can actually live for years on nothing more than dates and water.110 V. H. W. Dowson, a recognized expert in this field, says that one grain of date and a glass of milk are enough to meet all of a person's daily nutritional requirements.
The substance oxytocin, which is present in the date, is used in modern medicine to facilitate birth. In fact, oxytocin means "rapid birth." It is also known to increase levels of mother's milk after birth.
Oxytocin is actually a hormone released by the pituitary gland which stimulates contractions of the womb during childbirth. All the pre-birth preparations in the body take place thanks to this hormone. The effects of the hormone can be seen in the muscles that form the mother's womb and in cells in the muscular structure that enables the secretion of mother's milk. The effective contraction of the womb is essential if birth is to take place. Oxytocin enables the muscles that comprise the womb to contract in a very powerful manner. Moreover, oxytocin also initiates the secretion of mother's milk. This feature of the date alone-the way it contains oxytocin-is important evidence that the Qur'an is the revelation of Allah. The medical identification of the benefits of the date only became possible in recent times. Yet it was set out fourteen centuries ago in the Qur'an that Allah revealed to Maryam that she should eat dates.
Dates also contain a form of sugar that gives the body high levels of mobility and heat energy and which can be easily broken down in the body. Furthermore, this sugar is not glucose, which rapidly raises the level of blood sugar but the fruit sugar fructose. A rapid rise in blood sugar levels in diabetics in particular has a damaging effect on a great many organs and systems, especially the eyes, kidneys, heart and circulatory system and nervous system. High blood sugar is one of the main causes of disorders as serious as loss of sight, heart attacks and kidney insufficiency.
Dates contain a great many vitamins and minerals. They are very rich in fiber, fat and proteins. They also contain sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, Sulphur, phosphorus and chlorine, as well as vitamins A, beta-carotene, B1, B2, B3 and B6.

  • The ears are active during sleep

So we sealed their ears [with sleep] in the cave for a number of years.
    (Qur'an, 18:11)
The original Arabic of the phrase "We sealed their ears" in the Qur'an is the verb “daraba”. This bears the metaphorical meaning of "We have made them sleep." Used in reference to the ears, “daraba” means "preventing the ears from hearing." The fact that only the sense of hearing is mentioned here is very significant.
According to recent scientific discoveries, the ear is the only sensory organ active while a person is sleeping. This is why we need an alarm clock to wake up (Kazi, 130 Evident Miracles in the Quran, 108). The wisdom of the phrase "We sealed their ears" is, in all probability, that Allah closed the hearing of the young people in question, for which reason they remained asleep for many years.

  • The existence of Microscopic life

Glory be to Him Who created all the pairs: from what the earth produces and from themselves and from things unknown to them. (Qur'an, 36:36)
And He creates other things you do not know. (Qur'an, 16:8)
The above verses indicate the existence of life forms unknown to people at the time of the revelation of the Qur'an. Indeed, with the discovery of the microscope, new living things too small to be seen with the naked eye have also been discovered by man. People have therefore begun to learn about the existence of these life forms, indicated in the Qur'an. Other verses which point to the existence of micro-organisms, which are invisible to the naked eye and generally, consist of a single cell, read:
He is the Knower of the Unseen, Whom not even the weight of the smallest particle eludes, either in the heavens or in the earth; nor is there anything smaller or larger than that which is not in a Clear Book. (Qur'an, 34:3)
Not even the smallest speck eludes your Lord, either on earth or in heaven. Nor is there anything smaller than that, or larger, which is not in a Clear Book. (Qur'an, 10:61)
There are 20 times more members of this secret world, which is spread all over the planet, micro-organisms in other words, than there are animals on Earth. These micro-organisms, invisible to the naked eye, comprise bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae and Acarina (mites and ticks). They also constitute an important element in the balance of life on Earth. For example, the nitrogen cycle, one of the fundamental components of the formation of life on Earth, is made possible by bacteria. Root fungi are the most important element in plants being able to take up minerals from the soil. The bacteria on our tongues prevent us being poisoned by food containing nitrates, such as salad stuffs and meat. At the same time, certain bacteria and algae possess the ability to make photosynthesis, the fundamental element in life on Earth, and share that task with plants. Some members of the Acarina family decompose organic substances and turn them into foodstuffs suitable for plants. As we have seen, these tiny life forms, about which we have only learned with modern technological equipment, are essential to human life.
