Ha Mim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Ha-Meem:
2. A revelation from the Beneficent, the Most Merciful;
3. A book fully expounded in its verses, an Arabic Qur’an for people who know,
4. Bearer of glad tidings, and a warner, yet most of them turn away, so they do not hearken.
5. They say: “Our hearts are under coverings from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is heaviness, and between us and you hangs a veil; so, do what you please, for so are we doing.”
6. They say: “I am only a man like you; it is revealed to me that your God is One, so seek a straight path unto Him, and seek His forgiveness; woe unto those who associate others with God,
7. “Who do not pay zakat, even denying the hereafter.”
8. Verily for those who believe and do good deeds there is a ceaseless recompense.
9. Say: “Do you indeed disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two days (periods) and you (still) set up equals with Him? That is the Lord of the worlds.”
10. He has made therein lofty mountains, and He has bestowed His blessings thereupon; He measured its nourishment in four equal days (periods) for the seekers.
11. Then He applied Himself to the firmament which was yet only a smoke; so He said to it and to the earth: “Come you twain willingly or reluctantly.” The twain said: “We come willingly.”
12. And He made them seven heavens in two days (periods), and assigned His Will unto every heaven; We adorned the lower heavens with lamps (stars) and provided them with (angel) guards; that is the decree of the Almighty, the all-Knowing.
13. If they turn away from you (Muhammad), then say: “I warn you of thunderbolt like the one that afflicted the people of Ad and Thamud.”
14. When Our messengers came to them from before and from behind them saying: “Worship none save God,” they said: “Had our Lord willed, He would certainly have sent angels; so, verily we in what you have been sent with disbelieve.”
15. As to the people of Ad, they prided in the land without right, and they said: “Who is mightier than us in power?” Behold! Is not God Who created them mightier than them in power? And they used to deny Our signs, too.
16. So We sent upon them a violent wind in inauspicious days that We may make them taste the chastisement of disgrace in the life of this world, and certainly the torment of the hereafter is more disgracing, and they shall not be helped.
17. As to (the people of) Thamud, We guided them aright, but they favoured misguidance to guidance; so a thunderbolt of a disgracing chastisement seized them for what they used to earn.
18. And We rescued those who believed and feared God.
19. On the Day when the enemies of God are gathered together for the Fire, they shall be ranked in groups.
20. When they come to it (Hell), their ears, eyes, and skins shall bear witness against them as to what they used to do.
21. And they shall say to their skins: “Why do you bear witness against us?” They shall say: “God Who makes everything speak has caused us to speak; He it is Who created you the first time, and to Him you shall all be returned.”
22. And you could not seek to hide yourselves lest your ears, eyes, and skins should bear witness against you, but you thought that God does not know most of what you used to do.
23. That was but your (evil) conjecture which you conjectured about your Lord, (now) it has tumbled you into ruin, so you have become the losers.
24. If they bear patiently, the Fire shall still be their abode, and if they seek favours, then they shall not be among the favoured ones.
25. We have appointed for them intimate companions, so for them fair-seeming have been made what is before them and what is behind them, and the sentence proved just against them, as it did with the peoples of the jinn and the human beings who passed away before them; verily they were the losers.
26. Those who disbelieve say: “Do not listen to this Qur’an but make noise (while it is recited), perhaps you may have the upper hand.”
27. We will certainly make those who disbelieve taste a severe chastisement, and We will certainly reward them with the worst of what they used to do.
28. The Fire shall be the recompense of the enemies of God to abide therein for denying Our sign.
29. Those who disbelieve will say: “Lord! Show us those who led us astray of both the jinn and the humans; we will trample upon them with our feet so that they may be the lowest.”
30. Verily those who say: “Our Lord is God” and remain on the Right Path, the angels descend upon them: “Do not fear nor grieve, and receive the glad tidings of the garden which you were promised.
31. “We are your guardians in the life of this world and in the hereafter, and for you shall be whatever you desire,
32. “A hospitable welcome from the oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”
33. And who is better in speech than he who calls unto God and does good deeds saying: “Verily I am a Muslim.”
34. The good and the evil cannot be equal; repel evil with what is best when, lo, he between whom and you was enmity shall turn as if he were a warm friend.
35. None receive it save those who are steadfast, and none receive it save those who are most fortunate.
36. If an enticement from Satan entices you, seek refuge then with God; verily He is the all-Hearing, the all-Seeing.
37. Among His signs are: the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate in obeisance to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate in obeisance to God (alone) Who created them both, if you worship Him.
38. But if the are too arrogant (to do so), then those (angels) with your Lord glorify Him night and day, and they are never tired. (COMPULSORY PROSTRATION HERE)
39. Among His signs is that you see the earth barren, but when We send water down on it, it stirs and swells; verily He Who gives it life will certainly give life to the dead; verily He has power over all things.
40. Verily those who distort Our signs are not hidden from Us. Is then he who is cast in the Fire better, or he who comes safe on the Day of Judgment? Do as you please; verily He sees all what you do.
41. Those are disbelievers who disbelieve in the reminder (Qur’an) when it is brought to them, though it is a book that is unassailable.
42. Falsehood cannot approach it from front or from behind, a revelation from the all-Wise, the Most Praised.
43. Nothing is said to you save what was said to the messengers before you; surely your Lord is the Lord of forgiveness and the Lord of grievous retribution.
44. Had We made it a colloquial Qur’an, they would certainly have said: “Why are not its verses made plain? In a slang (tongue)?! While the Prophet is Arabian?!” Say: “It is for those who believe, a guidance and a cure. As to those who do not believe, there is heaviness in their ears, and they are blind thereto. These are like those who are called upon from a far off place.”
45. Indeed We bestowed the Book upon Moses, but disputes arose therein. Had no word already gone forth from your Lord, there would certainly have been judgment passed between them, and they are certainly about it in a disquieting doubt.
46. Whosoever does good deeds, it is for his own self, and whosoever commits evil, it is against his own self; your Lord is not unjust to the servants.
47. To Him is referred the knowledge of the Hour (of reckoning); no fruits come out of its covering, and no females are big with child nor deliver except with His knowledge. On the Day when He calls them: “Where are My partners?” they shall say: “We declare to You that there is no witness from us thereto.”
48. What they used to call upon before shall pass away from them, and they shall know that for them there is no escape.
49. Man never tires praying for good (things), yet when a harm touches him, he is despaired, hopeless.
50. If We make him taste mercy from Us after distress had touched him, he will certainly say: “This is my due, and I deem the Hour (of reckoning) would never be established, and if I am returned to my Lord, verily there will be the best for me with Him.” We will certainly inform those who disbelieve of what they used to do, and We will surely make them taste of a stiff torment.
51. When We bestow bounties on man, he turns away, and when any distress touches him, he abounds in long prayers.
52. Say: “Do you behold that it (Qur’an) is from God, yet you still disbelieve in it? Who is farther astray than he who is in opposition far away (from the truth)?”
53. Soon will We show them Our signs in the horizons, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that He is the truth. Does it not suffice you that He is witness over all things?
54. They doubt the meeting with their Lord! Verily He encompasses everything.
