In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Hallowed is He in Whose hand is the kingdom (of the heavens and the earth), and He has power over all things.
2. He created death and life that He may try you (to ascertain) which of you is best in deeds; He is the ever-Prevalent, the oft- Forgiving.
3. Who created the seven heavens layer above layer (spheres); you cannot find any defect or incongruity in the creation of the Beneficent. Then look again; do you see any gap?
4. Then repeat your gaze again and again; your gaze shall return to you dulled, wearied.
5. Indeed We have adorned the lower heavens with lamps (stars) and made them (like) missiles to repulse the satans, and We have prepared for them the chastisement of the flaming Fire.
6. As for those who disbelieve in their Lord, there is the chastisement of Hell, and evil is the destination.
7. When they are flung into it, they hear its roaring as it boils up,
8. As though it is bursting with rage. Whenever a group is flung into it, its keepers shall ask them: “Did any warner come to you?”
9. They shall say: “Yes, indeed, a warner did come to us, but we rejected and said ` God has sent naught; you are but in vast delusion.’”
10. And they shall say: “Had we but listened or pondered, we would not have become among the fellows of the flaming Fire.”
11. So they shall confess their sins, but far will be (from mercy) the inmates of the blazing Fire.
12. Verily, for those who fear their Lord in secret shall be forgiveness and a great reward.
13. You conceal your word or declare it; verily He knows the secrets of the hearts.
14. Would He Who created not know? He is the Subtle, the all-Aware.
15. He it is Who made the earth subservient to you; so traverse its broad sides, and eat of His provision. To Him (alone) is the ultimate return.
16. Do you deem yourselves secure of Him Who rules the heavens, that He may not cause the earth to swallow you up? Then lo! It shall quake,
17. Or do you deem yourselves secure of Him Who rules the heavens, that He will not send down upon you a tornado with showers of stone, then you shall know how (terrible) My warning is?
18. And indeed those before them rejected (My signs): how (terrible) then was My wrath?
19. Do they not behold the birds above them outstretching (their wings), and contracting them? None upholds them save the Beneficent. Verily He well sees everything.
20. Or who is it that can be a host for you to succor besides the Beneficent? The disbelievers are but in mere delusion.
21. Or who is it that can provide you with sustenance should He withhold His sustenance? Yet they persist in disdain and aversion (against the truth).
22. Is he who goes along grovelling on his face better guided than he who walks upright upon the Straight Path?
23. Say: “It is He Who brought you (into existence) and made for you ears, eyes, and hearts; yet how little is it that you thank?”
24. Say: “He it is Who has multiplied you throughout the world, and to Him (alone) shall you all be gathered.”
25. They say: “When shall this appointment come to pass, if you are truthful?”
26. Say: “Verily the knowledge of it is only with God, and verily I am but an open warner.”
27. Yet when they see it nigh, grieved shall be the faces of those who disbelieve, and it shall be said to them: “This is what you have been calling for.”
28. Say: “Do you see if God were to destroy me and those with me, or if He were to bestow mercy upon us, who would protect the disbelievers against the painful chastisement?”
29. Say: “He is the Beneficent. We believe in Him and on Him (alone) do we rely; so you shall come to know who is in manifest straying.”
30. Say: “Do you see should your water go down (into the ground), who then (other than God) can bring you flowing water?”
